Learn how

our adoption process works

one

Review our available pups and submit a detailed application!

Once you find the pup of your dreams, go ahead and submit an application. Feel free to list more than one dog, and please note if you're open to being matched with a dog based on your application!

Helpful Hint: The more detailed your application the more likely it is we will be able to match you with a pup!

two

Schedule a brief phone interview

If your application is a good fit, an Adoption Coordinator will reach out for a phone interview to confirm the details of your application and get to know the applicant better. This is when you'll be able to ask ALL those questions about the dog you've applied for!

Heads-Up: If the dog you applied for is no longer available, we may suggest another pup that we think will fit your family! Try to keep an open mind and the perfect pup will walk right in!

The meet & greet!

If following the interview both the adoption team and applicant still wish to move forward, a Placement Coordinator will reach out to schedule a meet & greet!

We require ALL applicants to meet the dog in person, with all members of the household (4 legged friends included!) before proceeding with an adoption. Be prepared to ask the foster any questions about your potential new friend!

FOUR

Approval & Pick-up

Following the meet and greet you will have a quick final screening with your adoption coordinator to address any lingering concerns.

If approved, you will sign the adoption agreement, pay your fee, and start preparing to bring your pup home!

One More Thing!: All adopted pups must be picked up from the foster within 48 hours of adoption. If you wish to alter this timeline for any reason let your Adoption Coordinator know!

Our Adoption Commitment:

First and foremost our goal is finding our rescued dogs the best-fit home and family, where they can thrive and be loved.

At Little Black Dog, this means getting to know our applicants as people and families, so we can find them the best match possible. We carefully place dogs based on all the information we have and promise to be transparent and honest. We aim to make our adoptions process inclusive and know that each dog and family’s needs are diverse and unique. We are far more interested in an applicant's desire and drive to give one of our pups the best life possible than fenced in backyards, or traditionally “perfect” applicants. If you’re ready to give time, love, and patience to a rescue dog, we’re ready to help you find them.
